A rare motorcycle with great looks and racing history will always be a blue-chip collectible and infrequently becomes available on the open market. Looking just as it did when last raced (with the exception of a de-pressurized rear shock), here we have one of the centerpieces of the Silverman Museum Racing collection, the Team Leoni Ducati TT1 as campaigned by rider Pablo Real. Reno Leoni, a former test rider for the Ducati factory, moved to America in 1965 and stayed for the next 35 years, making a name for himself as an ace tuner, first with Moto Guzzis and most famously with Ducatis. Leoni was instrumental in establishing the early Superbike series and then the emerging Battle of the Twins division. "Leoni is one of the all-time mechanical geniuses in AMA racing history," wrote historian Larry Lawrence. Torello Tacchi, who rode racebikes built by Leoni, agreed: "Whenever one of his bikes showed up at the track, you knew it was ready to race." Leoni is most closely associated with the late Jimmy Adamo, one of the early stars of the AMA Battle of the Twins class formed in 1982. Adamo rode a Leoni-tuned Ducati to the first two BOTT championships and went on to notch an incredible 31 AMA Twins nationals. While his competition résumé isn't quite that impressive, this bike's last rider was a good journeyman racer. Originally from Uruguay, Pablo Real was the AMA's 1991 Pro Twins GP1 national champion, and always ran well on the high banks at Daytona.
