Title: The Effects of Atomic Bombs on Health and Medical Services in Hiroshima and Nagasaki Author: U.S. Strategic Bombing Survey, Medical Division Place: Washington, DC Publisher: US Government Printing Office Date: March 1947 Description: Original wrappers. 8 x 10 inches, 86pp.+ 5pg.index of the 300+ Bombing Survey Reports on the European and Pacific Wars. Illustrated with 50+ photographs, most horrific pictures of the medical effects of the bomb on survivors, plus 15 tables, maps and graphs. Rare. We found no other copy of the original imprint offered on the Internet. Of the 108 Bombing Survey Reports on the Pacific War, only a handful addressed the effects of the A-bomb; this was the only one to study the medical effects at Hiroshima and Nagasaki – understandably underplayed by the US Government. Unlike the famous Smyth Report which was rushed to press immediately after the Japanese surrender, this was issued two years after the War and buried in the voluminous and largely unread Bombing Survey series. Apart from the horrific photos, the Report is written in bureaucratese with section titles like Effects on Medical Facilities and Personnel, Nature of Atomic Bomb Casualties, Environment Sanitation, Food Supply and Nutrition, Communicable Diseases and Industrial Health and Hygiene. Lot Amendments Condition: Item number: 247891
