Eliot, R.N.); 1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; Africa Star, clasp, North Africa 1942-43; Defence and War Medals, good very fine (6) Footnote Christopher John Marriott Eliot was first appointed Midshipman aboard H.M.S. CUMBERLAND on 1 January 1928, and to SUFFOLK on 3 September 1929, both cruisers on the China station. After attending his course for Lieutenent at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich, he was assigned to DAFFODIL, being promoted Lieutenant on 16 October 1932. He attended a specialist signal course in 1933 and in December was assigned to Signal School as instructor. In 1936 he was appointed Signal Officer to Captain P. L. Vian, Commander, 19th Submarine Flotilla, Mediterranean, aboard H.M.S. DOUGLAS, Submarine Flotilla Leader. In December 1936 he transferred in the same capacity to CYCLOPS, depot ship, 1st Submarine Flotilla, Mediterranean. He returned to Signal School in July 1937, and in November 1938 was assigned as Signals Officer aboard H.M.S. SOMALI. He was next appointed as Assistant Signals Officer, Rosyth (July 1940) and promoted Lieutenant Commander on 6 October 1940. He was next appointed to H.M.S. MERCURY for Special Duties on 16 August 1941, and to ANSON on 11 February 1943, as Flag Lieutenant and Squadron Signal W.T. Officer. Transferred to CEREBUS, shore base, Australia, in October 1944, and in November 1945 was appointed Fleet Communications Officer to Admiral Sir E. L. Neville Syfret, K.C.B., C-in-C, Home Fleet, aboard H.M.S. NELSON. In November 1946 he transferred to H.M.S. YORK in the same capacity, and in December 1947 was appointed to the staff of Admiral Sir E. F. Palliser, K.C.B., D.S.C., C-in-C, East Indies station, aboard H.M.S. HIGHFLYER. Promoted to Commander on 30 June 1948, and given command of H.M.S. TRUELOVE on 19 August 1950. His subsequent appointments were as Member, Directing Staff, R.N. Tactical Training School, Woolwich (July 1952); H.M.S. St ANGELO (1955); NATO Forces (1956) as Specialist Communications Officer. He was placed on the retired list at his own request on 11 January 1957.
