The Goelet family, originally hardware merchants, were socially prominent for generations and were at the top of the social ladder in Victorian New York. The 1887 Goelet Building at the southeast corner of 20th Street and Broadway was put up by the brothers Robert and Ogden Goelet. In literature they are cited as owning sailing ships. The brig "Twins" Madeira--Vintage 1806 Levels: two top and three upper shoulder; damp stained labels, torn labels, no capsules, Imported by P.P. Goelet in the brig 'Twins' in January 1810, bottled in September 1816, decanted in January 1885 by William H. Fearing, recorked April 16, 1919 5 bottles per lot
