TEXTILE]. GREAT SEAL OF THE U.S. Hand-embroidered banner depicting a large stylized eagle with its wings upraised, against a fan of large American flags, a ribbon at top bears motto "E. pluribus unum," shield beneath bearing thirteen stars, olive branch and arrows below. [N.p., 1890s?]. 18½ x 23 in. approximately. Finely hand-embroidered in silk and metallic thread on blue silk, using white, pink, purple, red, green, gray, black and gold thread. Preserved in a sunken mat with gilt edges, glazed in a gilt and black wood frame. Unexamined out of frame. A bold and well-executed textile, freely interpreting the elements of the seal as originally designed by Charles Thomson in 1782.
