Modern calf, gilt-lettered on upper cover. FIRST EDITION OF LANGWORTHY'S EDITION OF THE "FIRST TEXAS CONSTITUTION, AS A MEXICAN STATE" (Howes), adding considerably to earlier editions of the text. The text of the constitution first appeared in Spanish in 1827, followed by English translations published in Natchitoches (1827) and Chillicothe (1829). The present New York edition is considered the best textually, for its additions by Langworthy, who had travelled throughout Texas in 1831, and for the inclusion of an index. An important and early work on Texas, including documents relating to the Galveston Bay and Texas Land Company, the grants to Wilson, Exter and Dominguez.
