TAX DOCUMENTS]. A group of 4 Italian broadsides: Playing Card Tax Document, Torino, 1696, single sheet. Edict of Vittorio Amedeo II, Duke of Savoy, Prince of Pie[d]mont, King of Cipro [Cypress], etc. (reign 1675-1730) grants exclusive rights on playing cards and tarot to Gioseppe Antonio Rochati from January 1, 1697 to October 31, 1700. The cards require a distinctive mark on the courts and a duty tax stamp on the wrapper; the edict also forbids anyone else to import, produce and sell such cards. Size 19 1/4 in (48 cm) high, 16 in. (40.5 cm) wide. -- Playing Card Tax Document, Milan, 1781, single sheet. Edict of Josephus (Joseph) II, Emperor of the Romans, King of Germany, Hungary & Bohemia, etc., document establishes further import and export taxes on various items including playing cards of any quality. Size 19 1/4 in. (48 cm) high, 15 3/4 (40 cm) wide. -- Playing Card Tax Document, Tuscany, 1815, 8 pages. Edict by Ferdinand III, Grand Duke of Tuscany and Archduke of Austria, document merges the tax administrations on playing cards and contracts into a single tax authority. Size 16 1/2 in. (41.5 cm) high, 11 in (28 cm) wide. -- Playing Card Tax Document, Milan, 1685, single sheet. Decree of Hieronymus Tizonus issued by the Royal Ducal Court in behalf of plaintiff, Giacomo Antonio Andreotti, Playing Card Tax Collector, that Baricelli and other soldiers of the city of Milan and other cities and places of the State, could no longer make any searches in inns or other public and private places to see whether or not the cards were properly tax stamped without first obtaining authorization in writing from the appropriate local tax authority.
