1835 (Jan.7) entire addressed to John Leake endorsed "James England", the Director-General of the Posts from 1833-34, thus qualified to send as exempt mail. The missive should have been endorsed "On Public Service Only" for this entitlement, however this may have been overlooked as sender and recipient were both eminent members of the community; alternatively it may have been delivered privately as they lived within close proximity. Ex John Cress. Purchased in our November 2003 Sale for $900+.
