First trade edition, 4to, publisher's brown cloth, inscribed in 1953 by King Hussein of Jordan and Sherif Nadder Jamil in Arabic and English, with a note tipped in by T.W. Macdonald presenting the book to Dawson Dickson (29 July 1935), and 9 photographs of Lawrence and the Arabian campaign mounted on the endpapersii) Flowers from the Holy Land. In Remembrance of the British Army conqueror of the Holy Land 9th December 1917. [Jerusalem, 1917?]. Oblong 12mo, twelve coloured views with pressed flowers on facing rectos, varnished wooden boards, Dawson Dickson's copyiii) Loose papers and photographs: T.E. Lawrence, 'The Destruction of the 4th Army', mimeograph typescript of his secret despatch for the Arab Bulletin of 22 October 1918, scattered corrections, 6 pages; photographs, including an envelope containing nine vintage photographs the Arabian campaign (some copy prints, five captioned on the reverse), two photographs of Dickson in Arabia, later photographs of Lawrence (including several copies of Lawrence on his bicycle at Bridlington on the day he left the RAF, 26 February 1935), and others; correspondence, including a letter by Dawson Dickson to his parents, Damascus, 1919, cards by Eric Kennington and A.W. Lawrence, two letters by Captain Gilman, Dickson's commanding officer, reminiscing about Arabia, 1971-72, and others relating to Lawrence and his reputation; press cuttings, including several relating to Dawson's connection with Lawrence including accounts of his meeting with King Hussein in Keswick in 1953 Dawson Dickson was a driver in the RASC who served under Lawrence in the Hedjaz Armoured Car Battery. He remained an enthusiastic supporter of Lawrence throughout his life, and was dismayed at revisionist attacks on his hero by Richard Aldington and others. He met King Hussein of Jordan on a trip to Dickson's native Cumbria in 1953.
