SwissA gold quarter repeating automaton watch with three striking jacquemartsCirca 1830, no. 223 • Movement: gilded full plate, verge escapement, plain three-arm balance, decoratively pierced and engraved balance bridge, fusee and chain, two polished hammers repeating on blued steel coiled gongs, movement numbered 223 beneath the gongs• Dial: skeletonised with white enamel chapter ring, Arabic numerals, outer minute ring, two vari-colour female Jacquemarts either side of the chapter ring, a further Jacquemart in the form of a putto to the base of the dial, all three figures each striking a bell in unison with the repeating work, polished steel repeating work partially visible beneath dial • Case: gold, polished back and bezel, milled band, plunge pendant with locking slide to the band, gilt-metal cuvette, casebacknumbered 11374, 1694 and with indistinct case stamp possibly TC or LC, rim of the cuvette stamped DB diameter 57.5mmCondition reportMovement: not running, fusee chain is broken and detached. Repeating is operational with hours and quarters sounding, the hour is occasionally slightly dull in tone. The two female Jacquemarts figures are moving their arms well and in time with the repeat, the putto Jacquemart's arm moves with the repeat of the quarters but only slightly at present and does not quite reach his bell. The strike is out of sync with the hands at present (approx 6 hours) so the hands should be re-set. Dial: enamel chapter ring appears to be in good condition. The Jacquemarts and their decoration generally in good condition with some tarnishing. Case: with light scuffs, indentation to the back on the hinge side. Pendant locking slide is operational.
