Ay.) with silver buckle on ribbon, edge bruising, contact marks, nearly very fine £650-750 Footnote George Moir was born on 13 March 1820 and entered the Bengal Army in 1838 as a Cadet of Artillery. He arrived in India in July 1839 and in October 1839 received his first posting. Promoted to Lieutenant in August 1841, he served at the battle of Maharajpoor for which he was awarded the Star. Then served during the First Sikh War for which he was awarded the medal with two clasps and in the Second Sikh War for which he was awarded the medal with clasps for Mooltan and Goojerat. Promoted to Captain in March 1853. During the suppression of the Indian Mutiny, he was part of the force under Sir James Outram detailed to hold the Alambagh, being present during the siege and capture of Lucknow. For his services he was awarded the medal with two clasps, created a Brevet Major in July 1858 and created a Companion of the Order of the Bath. On 18 February 1861 he attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. In November 1862 he was appointed Deputy Adjutant General to the Royal Artillery in India but was compelled to resign his post in March 1863 due to ill health. In March 1864 he was appointed Officiating Deputy Adjutant General to the Royal Artillery in India. Lieutenant-Colonel George Moir died in Ambala on 5 February 1870. With copied service details.
