Beschreibung:

Substantial fragment from an extensive anthology of Persian poetry, in Persian, illuminated manuscript on paper [probably Northern Iraq, dated 999 AH (1590/91 AD)] Two volumes, 135 leaves together, uncollatable, perhaps missing a few singles, single & double-column, 23 lines of fluid black naskh, two illuminated unwan in opening the text in each volume, leaves ruled in black and gold, marginal commentary usually forming geometrical shapes within the ruled borders, some marginal worming, top edges a little water-stained, some marginal worming, 285 by 155 mm. (written space 205 by 98 mm.); one volume in early boards, rebacked with corners repaired, second volume in modern morocco, both resewn with modern pastedowns and flyleaves Provenance: 1. Most probably written and illuminated in Iraq: Contemporary and near contemporary Iraqi on the flyleaves. 2. In the English speaking book trade by early twentieth century: price ‘2 shillings’ Text: While each of these volumes is complete in itself, they would appear to be two parts of a larger series. The text appears to have been paginated in the mid-nineteenth century but the pagination is not consecutive (the first volume runs from pp.36-117 and the second from pp.190-258 ending with the dated colophon).
