A 6" x 8" silver gelatin print on a 7.5" x 9.5" mount, presented in a 16" x 20" folding mat. The chiefs fur-wrapped braids and peace medals, standing outside a brick building with a young boy. The mount has a C.C. STOTZ/PHOTOGRAPHER/EL RENO, O.T. rubber stamp on verso, slightly faded, as well as the period ink inscription: Three Cheyenne Chiefs, Cheyenne Agency, 1895 - Little Chief. Cloud Chief. and Little Bear. all wearing their old Peace Medals Photo by C.C. Stotz. El Reno Okla. C. C. Stotz established a studio in El Reno, Oklahoma Territory in 1889 at the same time the town was founded. The location placed him close to the Darlington Cheyenne-Arapahoe Agency, which may be the location of this photograph. During the 1890s and 1900s he made field and studio photographs of Southern Plains Indians. Condition: The print is very good with only minor scattered scuffs while the mount is moderately toned, with two pinholes, a few small water stains and worn corners/edges.
