STONE AGE BRITISH FLINT HANDAXE GROUP Palaeolithic, 350000-250000 BC A mixed group comprising: a triangular bifacial handaxe in grey-brown flint with small area of original cortex, formed from a large flake, with remnants of old collector labels; a substantial bifacial handaxe of most unusual form, the butt being hollowed (so as to give the visual appearance of a giant 'arrowhead' of later eras), this probably resulting from the inclusion weakness in the original flint core, in a brown-grey flint with inked 'Thames' findspot reference. 434 grams total, 11-13.5cm (4 1/4 - 5 1/4"). Fine condition. The second most interesting. [2, No Reserve] Provenance From an old Hampshire collection; the second labelled as from the River Thames.
