STOLICZKA, Ferdinand (1838-1874) and Richard Bowdler SHARPE (1847-1909). Scientific Results of the Second Yarkand Mission, based upon the Collections and Notes of the late Ferdinand Stoliczka . London: Eyre and Spottiswood, and Calcutta: Office of the Superintendant of Government Printing, 1878-1891. 15 original parts, 4° (380 x 285mm and smaller). 71 lithographic plates, 46 coloured by hand, by A.S. Foord, Mintern Brothers and others after W. Hart J.G. Keuemans and J. Smit, folding coloured map, illustrations in the text. (Some leaves slightly spotted, marginal tears to a few leaves.) Original wrappers, uncut (slightly dust soiling, some torn, mainly to spines), modern cloth box with morocco lettering piece. Following the death of Stoliczka during the expedition and the loss of his manuscripts with the exception of his notebook, the task of completing the work fell to Sharpe from the collections of Allan Hume and Stoliczka. The 15 parts include an introduction and memoir with Geology, Mammalia and Reptilia written by W.T. Blanford, Aves by Sharpe with the remaining parts by various authors. Some 350 species are included, with illustratins of Mammalia and Aves by Keulemans and others. Nissen IVB 861; Nissen ZBI 4760; Zimmer 580; Anker 465. (15)
