Statuts de l'Ordre de St. Michel. [Paris]: l'Imprimerie Royale, 1725. 4 o (284 x 210 mm). Engraved title, head- and tail-pieces and initials by C.N. Cochin after Louis de Boulogne, 3 engraved plates by Simonneau fils. (A few sheets with some minor browning.) Contemporary French black morocco gilt, sides with gilt central coat-of- arms of Louis XV (Olivier 2495, fer 3), and St. Esprit corner-pieces (Olivier 2495, fer 4), spine in six compartments, gilt lettered in second with alternating Louis XV monogram and Toison d'or medallion, edges gilt. Provenance : Hans Fürstenberg (bookplate and pencil note CF 708); Otto Schäfer (his sale Sotheby's London, Dec 8, 1995 lot 582). FRENCH ROYAL PRESENTATION BINDING. The Order of Saint Michael was founded in 1469 in an effort to guarantee the allegiance of ranking nobles. Brunet VI:1639.
