Provenance: early signature cancelled from title -- Robert Fearington (stamp to front blank) -- Thomas Edward Watson (bookplate; by descent to the present owners). First Aldine edition of Statius's work, bound without the Orthographia and the Achilleidos . Renouard 35:7, Adams S-1670, Brunet V, 512 ("Edition dont on trouve difficilement des exemplaires bien conservés"). SUETONIUS TRANQUILLUS, Caius. Opera. Venice: Aldine Press, May 1521. 8° (156 x 102mm), woodcut device on title (occasional light soiling and spotting). Early vellum, and later leather chemise, gilt edges (worn, front blank detached). Provenance: Armorial bookplate with the motto 'Avancez' -- Thomas Edward Watson (bookplate to chemise). Second Aldine edition, with the addition of annotations by Erasmus, which were first published in the Froben edition of 1518. It includes an introduction by Erasmus commending the present edition, and its editor's scholarship. Renouard 91:7, Adams S-2035, Graesse VI, 521. CICERO, Marcus Tullius (106-43 B.C.). Le Epistole Famigliari.
