STANLEY, Sir Henry Morton (1841-1904). - [ Report of the Committee to the Subscribers of the Emin Pasha Relief Fund. ] London: printed by Wliima Clowes & Sons, Ltd., [no date but circa 1890?]. 8° (209 x138mm). Pp.[1-]115. Extra-illustrated with loosely inserted 4pp. typescript of proposed alteration, 4ll. letterpress on a slip inserted at p.103 and 3pp. als. from Henry Curtis to Sir George Sutherland Mackenzie. Contemporary limp cloth, purple paper wrappers bound in, the upper cover in place of a title page (cloth binding worn and spine faded). Provenance : Sir George Sutherland Mackenzie (1844-1910, signature on upper wrapper, proof corrections). A FINE ASSOCIATION COPY OF THE UNPUBLISHED REPORT ON THE EMIN PASHA EXPEDITION. Sir George, a member of the Relief Committee, has marked the wrapper 'Proof only' and 'Confidential', and has made a number of suggested alterations as well as inserting a typescript of the proposed text that was to be substituted (at Stanley's suggestion) for the present chapter 'VI. The Charges in Connection with the Rear Column'. Sir George also explains on the verso of the wrapper the circumstances which led to the eventual complete supression of the report. All this apparently for the benefit of Lady Stanley. Henry Curtis, the author of the 3pp. letter dated 9 August 1910, was Lady Stanley's second husband and here writes to thank Sir George, on Lady Stanley's behalf, for the loan of the present work and expresses a hope that Sir George will place the Report in the Library of the British Museum. A.J. MOUNTENEY-JEPHSON. Emin Pasha and the rebellion at the Equator. London: Gilbert & Rivington, Ltd., for Sampson Low, Marston, Searle & Rivington, 1890. 8° (220 x 140mm). Title with vignette printed in brown, 2pp. publisher's advertisements at end. 1 photogravure portrait frontispiece, 1 folding t3-colour map, 1 folding fcsimile letter, 21 plates, numerous illustrations. (Creasing to foremargin of map.) Original brown cloth, upper cover and spine blocked in gilt and black (light soiling, slight bumping to extremities). Provenance : Lord Carew (inscription, book label). FIRST EDITION. And four other works in five volumes on the Emin Pasha Expedition, (including A.J. MOUNTENEY-JEPHSON. Emin Pasha and the rebellion at the Equator. New York: 1890. 8°. Original cloth. First U.S. edition; Gaetano CASATI. Ten Years in Equatoria. London & New York: 1891. 2 volumes, 8°. Original cloth.
