Martin Petersen (1866-1956) was born in Denmark and moved to New Jersey at an early age. He initially made his living executing medical drawings for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. Later in his career, he made a complete stylistic change and received great critical acclaim for his impressionistic works that contrasted with his earlier, technically exact drawings.
