decorated manuscript on vellum . (585 x 406 mm) 163 leaves, +1 blank, mostly in gatherings of 8, with extra added bifolium from a 12th-century manuscript partly pasted down to back cover. Contemporary foliation in red roman numerals in upper right corner. 40 lines ruled in drypoint, 7 five-lined red staves with black neumes of a square-shaped notation, text is written below in black ink in a round gothic bookhand, rubrics in red, some catchwords, justification: 415 x 245mm. A twelve-line opening initial ‘A’ parti-colored in red and blue with 2 side borders of scrolling penwork extending into the upper and left margins, an additional twelve-line initial ‘P’ on f.39r of similar decoration, over 200 five-line initials of alternating red and blue with penwork of the other color on the infill or free-form flourished initials in black touched yellow. 18th-century brown morocco over wooden boards with metal bosses, corner pieces and hide clasp, vellum label affixed to front cover (illeg.). Condition: few sewn repairs and some later added vellum strips, some darkening to vellum, slight creases, thumbsoiling; spine and extremities rubbed.
