Silver Bride's Chalice, unknown maker, probably South Carolina, c. 1798, deep bulbous bowl with flaring beaded rim engraved "Phalby Myers Born Sept. 24th 1784," molded foot with applied beaded band, ht. 5 7/8 in., approx. 9 troy oz. Note: According to family history this chalice was given as a wedding present to the bride, Phalby Mills Meyers, in 1798. A genealogical search record indicates that Phalby Mills was born to Major William Mills (b. November 10, 1746), and Eleanor Morris Mills, (b. 1739), in Green River, North Carolina on September 24, 1782 (or 1784 according to the chalice). On December 24, 1798 she married David Rudolph Meyers (b. November 28, 1768, in Ft. Marion, South Carolina, where they also resided on a 1200 acre plantation with grist and saw mills and raised 10 children. David Meyers went on to serve four terms in the South Carolina House of Representatives. Further printed family history is included with the chalice.
