Beschreibung:

silkscreen printed in colours, 1965, an exceptionally bright and fresh impression of this work, the colours vibrant, signed and numbered 160/200 in pencil, as included in the portfolio 11 Pop Artists Volume III, published by Original Editions, New York, on wove paper, with full margins, 956 x 701mm (37 5/8 x 27 5/8in)acknowledged the three works he produced for the 11 Pop Artists portfolios as his "First true Pop Art prints" (see. Corlett page. 21) and Sweet Dreams Baby! is quite rightly regarded as one of his graphic masterworks. It is one of the first works to display his signature ben-day-dots and appropriated comic-book style. Interestingly it is also one of only four prints, and interestingly from the 1960's that he produced containing a speech bubble, a device which was far more widely seen in his paintings of that time.present impression of Sweet Dreams Baby! is one of the finest examples extant. Having until recently never been framed, the colours which have a tendency to fade in sunlight are as bright and fresh as the day they were printed. Of particular note is the predominant canary yellow, which in the majority of examples seen is faded to a mustard tone, here the yellow is bright and fresh, the benefit of the work having never been exposed to the harmful effects of sunlight. The surface of the work too is exceptionally fresh, with no visible scuffing, again so evident in the majority of examples seen on the market. this is one of, if not the, finest example of this work to have ever appeared at auction.
