He enlisted in 1856 as a 1st Lieutenant and was commissioned into the US Army 1st Battn. Engineers on May 19, 1856. During the Civil War, Michler was promoted to Captain, 9/61; Major, 4/64; Lt. Colonel by Brevet, 8/64; Colonel by Brevet for his actions at Petersburg, 4/65; and Brigadier General by Brevet for his actions during the Rebellion, 4/65. Condition: Image has lightened a bit, signature on verso remains very good overall. Previous owners penciled notes on verso.
