Beschreibung:

Printed form filled out in ink. 41x51.5 cm (16¼x20¼"). The form document is the 1791 Seaman's Act signed in print by George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams Eight crew members are listed, including the master Wiliam Wildes, his mate Joseph Dias, and six seamen. with their dates of entry into service and monthly wages. The Albatross is a ship of significance in the history of American maritime exploration and expansion into the Pacific. In 1809, following this and other voyages, the ship sailed from Boston around the horn, and entered the Columbia River on July 17, 1810. Her crew attempted to build a trading post there but the venture ended in failure. Following another voyage to the Pacific Northwest, she was apparently to be sold to King Kamehameha I of Hawaii, but seems to have wound up flying Russian colors in 1815, poaching along the California coast. The following year the ship made it to Oahu, and was finally sold to Kamehameha I for 400 piculs of sandalwood, perhaps $3,000 at that time.
