(First 2 leaves cut down and mounted, with verses signed B.J. printed below portrait on separate leaf, some light staining and spotting, tiny rust hole in 3 leaves, 2 tears neatly repaired with loss of one letter.) 19th-century dark brown morocco panelled in blind, title gilt-lettered on spine, red edges (very lightly rubbed at spine edges and corners). Provenance : the Earls of Derby (bookplate). THE THIRD FOLIO, second, enlarged, issue. This issue of the third folio is the FIRST COMPLETE EDITION OF SHAKESPEARE'S PLAYS, including for the first time Pericles . Soon after printing some copies of the third folio it was decided to add a further 7 plays 'never before printed in folio', as the re-set title-page advertised; they were printed by Roger Daniel and appended as the final 13 quires. The first two leaves were cancelled and replaced by a new sheet, containing the Droeshout portrait above verses by Ben Jonson, facing the new title-page.
