Seth Thomas black painted cast iron pedestal mounted tower clock with movement, circa 1900. The clock has a heavy exposed brass movement mounted a top of the pedestal with round base with leveling adjustment. Mounted to the front of the movement is a 4 inch clock dial below a 1 1/2 inch diameter seconds dial with Arabic numerals. Mounted to the reverse of the movement is a wood handled winding crank which raises the weigh inside the column which then runs for thirty hours. Hanging from the top front of the movement is a heavy pendulum with a steel rod and heavy brass weight with adjustment screw below. Applied to the front of the pedestal is a gold decal with eagle and stars. Condition: The clock has been recently cleaned and regulated and is in good running order. The pedestal mounts have original painted surface with mellow patina. Note: This clock is illustrated and described in a Seth Thomas catalogue and indicates that it is a tower clock No. 4 which could run a single dial clock up to 5 feet in diameter, or 4 dials three feet in diameter. Fitted with a large pinion the clock will operate 4 clocks up to 4 feet in diameter. When set-up in the tower, the clock uses a complex pulley system and uses a boxed weight of about 500 pounds. The clock has an eight day running time when set-up with pulleys and large weight. Dimension: Height 55 inches; Base diameter 15 inches.
