Second German edition in a binding of Wenzel Dörffler. With woodcut title vignette with portrait of Melanchthon. Contemp. blindstamped pigskin over wooden boards (role with Fides, Spes, Caritas and Patientia, sign. W D) and inner panels (front cover with Justitia, back cover with Lucretia). With owner's stamp "F V L" and dated "1567". - Brown- and fingerstaining in places, partly slightly waterstained, first 5 and last 10 leaves with rebacked marginal defects (title and last 2 leaves with larger defects with loss of printed matter), joints and binding repaired. Binding stained, corners bumped, covering with 2 defective spots. Chronica.

Mit Besitzermonogramm "F V L" und datiert "1567". 4to. 24 nn., 170 (recte 172) num. Bll. Zweite deutsche Ausgabe des ersten Teils, in der Übersetzung durch Eusebius Menius. Geschätzte, bis ins 17. Jh. aufgelegten Chronik J. Carions, zu der 1562 erstmals ein zweiter Teil erschien. Wie auch schon bei der lat. Erstausgabe 1532 hatte Melanchthon, mit Luther einer der Lehrer von Johann Carion, an der Herausgabe der deutschen Übersetzung (zuerst 1560) entscheidend mitgewirkt. - Titel in Rot und Schwarz. - Der schöne Einband stammt wohl von dem bekannten Wittenberger Buchbinder Wenzel Dörffler (Haebler I, 96f.). Haebler verzeichnet die Rolle mit der Signatur Dörfflers, jedoch nicht die beiden Platten. - Stellenw. etw. finger- und braunfl. sowie wasserrandig, erste 5 und letzte 10 Bll. mit ergänztem Randläsuren (Titel und letzte 2 Bll. mit gr. Fehlstellen und etw. Textverlust), Gelenke und Bindung ausgebessert. Einbd. fleckig, Ecken bestoßen und mit 2 Fehlstellen im Bezug. VD 16, M 2725. - Vgl.
