Herman 61 62.5 x 88.5cm PROVENANCE: Acquired directly from the artist Private collection, Canberra Thence by descent Private collection, Melbourne OTHER NOTES: In 1959 Sali Herman travelled through Yirrkala, Arnhem Land, Melville Island and Darwin in the company of Dr. Stuart Scougall, a major Aboriginal Art patron of the Art Gallery of New South Wales. The trip inspired new subjects for Herman including Aboriginal grave-posts. Estimate $7,000-9,000 Condition: In good condition overall. There are minor surface spots, all of which could be removed through a surface clean. There are very minor hairline cracks forming in areas of impasto paint, likely formed naturally as it has dried out over time. The frame shows some small marks and scratches but is likely the original frame.
