The first, Eva Hanna Hanks, joined the previous year, and like many of Ginsburg's female colleagues over the years (including Sandra Day O'Connor), Hanks welcomed Ginsburg to the faculty with great collegiality. The 1969 yearbook features Ginsburg and Hanks in a double-page spread celebrating the 100th anniversary of the admittance of the first woman, Arabella M. Mansfield, to the practice of law in the United States.
