The family entered the service of the Russian Imperial Court during the Napoleonic Wars. Arturo's father, Paul Viktorovich Cassini, served as Russian Consul at Trieste and as a State Counselor to Venice and Arturo, a career diplomat, served as Ambassador to the United States during the Spanish-American and Russo-Japanese wars. Oleg Cassini Arturo's grandson, was raised in Italy before immigrating in the 1930s to the United States. Oleg pursued a career as a fashion designer and rose to fame in the early 1960s with his appointment by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy as her exclusive couturier. C
