ROWLING, J.K. (b. 1965). [A complete set of Harry Potter first editions]. London: Bloomsbury, 1997-2007. A complete set of Harry Potter first editions, each signed or inscribed by the author, including the very rare hardback first edition, first impression of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, with the ‘wand’ error on p. 53, number sequence 10 to 1 on the imprint page, and the misspelling of ‘Philosopher’s’ on the lower board. No other complete set including the rare first edition, first impression of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone has appeared at auction since 2014. While the story of the boy wizard would go on to take the world by storm, Rowling was totally unknown upon its first publication. Only 500 copies of the hardback version of the first book were printed, 300 of which went to libraries. After the phenomenal success of the first book, the boy wizard’s adventures continued, with each successive book covering a year at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry, and with the print runs of the first editions increasing in line with expected demand. Together 7 vols, octavo. Comprising: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. London: Bloomsbury, 1997. First edition, first impression. Signed on the half-title, with hologram sticker. Original pictorial boards by Thomas Taylor (spine lightly faded, some minor nicks to laminate and slight abrasions to boards, corners lightly worn, very minor split to part of upper hinge).
