ROVERE, Giovanna della, Signora of Senigallia (1460? - 1514). Unpublished letter, written and signed in her name ('Joanna Feretria de Ruvere alme urbis prefectissima etc') to Francesco Gaddi, Senigallia, 12 April 1497 , expressing her gratitude for the support shown by the Florentine republic and especially by him 'nullis meis precedentibus meritis, ma da sua innata zentileza favorisse li homeni et cose mie, sicomo per lettere de Guillelmo mio familiare et mandato li ne son stata certificata'; placing herself and her husband at his disposal, and asking him to continue in his efforts ('la sua incomminciata et a me gratissima opera') which will also be well received by the cardinal of San Pietro in Vincoli [Giuliano della Rovere] and her husband, 13 lines on one page, 270 x 210 mm , address panel on verso (a few tiny holes not affecting text, slight discolouration mostly in lower portion of leaf). MONTEFELTRO, Guidobaldo da, Duke of Urbino (1472 - 1508). Unpublished letter, written and signed in his name ('Guidubaldus: dux Urbini et Sanctae Romanae Ecclesiae capitaneus generalis') to the auditor ('revisore') of Gubbio, Urbino, 21 July 1507 , allowing two months after a warning to Bernardino de Tono 'de la serra de santo Abund[i]o' to pay his tax ('a pagare per le babelle [i.e. gabelle] de boche e altre'), 5 lines on one page, 165 x 215 mm , address panel on verso, papered seal. Giovanna della Rovere, second daughter of Federigo da Montefeltro, Duke of Urbino and sister of Guidobaldo, was married in 1474 to Giovanni della Rovere, Signore of Senigallia and Mondavio, nephew of Sixtus IV who appointed him prefect of Rome. He was one of the most powerful condottiere of his day. His brother Giuliano was elected Pope Julius II in 1503. Giovanna's correspondent, Francesco di Angelo Gaddi, descendant of a rich banking family, was recognised for his political and diplomatic skills, and was appointed secretary to the Dieci di Balìa. He was a friend of the leading humanists of his day. Giovanna, widowed in 1501, lost the city of Senigallia to Cesare Borgia in 1502 - 1503. Guidobaldo, son of Federigo da Montefeltro, served in the armies of Pope Alexander VI, Alfonso of Naples and of the republic of Florence. He was appointed Gonfalonier of the Church of Rome by Julius II, and continued his father's patronage of the arts. The present letter dates from the years of reorganisation in the duchy after his recovery of it following its occupation by Cesare Borgia.
