(13/1/4 x 9 in.), including mount, matted and framed. An oval albumen print (8 x 6.3/8 in. ) depicting the composer in a large overcoat, seated in a chair, facing right, hands clasped in his lap. The print signed at lower left by the photographer: "Ad. Turnachau & fils. 17 Rue des Italiens." Boldly inscribed in ink in lower margin: "a mon aimable ami John Thomas G. Rossini..." While carte-de-visite photographs of Rossini are relatively common, large format portraits are rarely encountered.
