ROSCOE, Margaret (née Lace). Floral Illustrations of the Seasons. London: R. Havell, jun., 1829-1831 [plates watermarked: 1828-1830]. 7 parts in one volume, 4° (287 x 225mm). 4 letterpress section titles. engraved additional title, 55 fine hand-coloured aquatint plates by Robert Havell jun., after Margaret Roscoe, pl. 36 with caption on a superimposed slip. (Plate 46 shaved with partial loss of artists' names.) Contemporary half calf (scuffed, joints and corners repaired). Provenance : Leonora Diroin(?) (indistinct inscription, dated December 1847). FIRST EDITION. The author was William Roscoe's daughter-in-law and was better known as a botanical artist under her maiden name Margaret Lace. Havell's masterly aquatints are each accompanied by a facing page of text giving a botanical decription of each specimen together with notes on its cultivation, history, varieties, etc. Cleveland Collections 969; Dunthorne 266; Nissen BBI 1676; Stafleu & Cowan IV, 9504.
