Rowell, New York, 2 September 1916, 1 1/4 pages, 4to, Metropolitan stationery, with a few handwritten emendations, lightly browned , discussing politics in the west: "...Now in strict confidence, I want to tell you that I have been a little puzzled as to what to do about California. As you know...the Governor seems reluctant to see me or to communicate with me..."; ROOSEVELT. Typed letter signed as President, to Charles Evans Hughes, Washington, D.C., 8 December 1906, 1 page, 4to, integral blank, White House stationery , endorsing a Mr. Keep, who "is not only able and intelligent, but resolute and vigorous..."; ROOSEVELT. Typed letter signed to Reverend J.J. Curran, New York, 4 January 1915, 2 pages, 4to, TR's personal stationery, with a few handwritten emendations, severely faded , concerning Mexico: "...As for what I did about Mexico, it merely represented my conception of how an American citizen ought to act...Not one-tenth of the dreadful truth...has been told..."; ROOSEVELT. Autograph letter signed as Vice-President, to Mrs. Mullikin, El Paso, 10 August 1901, 1 page, 4to, El Paso Club stationery, lightly browned , just four weeks before ascending to the Presidency, Teddy declines an invitation: "I wish I could accept; but I must be in New York...I had to refuse even the invitation to be at the Veteran's reunion...I was promised to Colorado..."; ROOSEVELT.
