Roman School of the 17th-century Travelers in a Landscape Hunting Scene in a Landscape A pair of oil on canvas 24 x 64 cm The two canvases refer to the 17th-century Roman period or the birth of the pictorial theme of landscape. In them, Nordic elements are condensed, probably from Paul Brill and Gottfried Wals, and elements of the Italian painting culture present in the city, probably from Agostino Tassi, Annibale, and Agostino Carracci and their many important pupils, e.g. Domenichino, Francesco Albani, Giovan Battista Viola, Pietro Paolo Bonzi. A combination of mutual influences gave figures such as Filippo Napoletano a reason to create a synthesis of them, giving an Italian form of expression to the landscape.
