Roman Empire, the Jewish Wars, an assortment of 2 Silver and 92 Bronze coins, the majority from Palestine and Phoenicia, featuring a good variety of Portrait Bronzes of Titus (AD 79-81) and Domitian (AD 81-96) depicting motifs relating to the victory in the Jewish Wars, including 5 Judea Capta AE24 of Titus, head of Titus right, rev., captive and shield at foot of trophy, legend in field (BMC 27.276. 2) and 8 AE21, head of Titus, rev., Victory standing right, writing on shield (cf. BM 27.282, 13 for general type), together with 5 AE22 of Domitian, head of Domitian, rev., Minerva crowning trophy (BMC 27.282, 47) and 2 AE28 of spear, trophy behind, as well as 11 earlier Jewish bronzes, mostly emitted by the Roman procurators, 48 bronzes of Tyre, head of Tyche, rev., palm tree, and a few other bronzes of the Roman period, mostly from neighboring regions; included also are a Year 2 Silver Shekel from the First Jewish War (AD 67), chalice and legend, rev., three pomegranates (Hendin 121) and a Judaea Capta denarius of Vespasian, fine to very fine, an attractive assemblage featuring many coins with "Judea Capta" motifs (94) (lot)
