ROLLS-ROYCE SILVER GHOST - A SCRATCH BUILT CHILD'S ELECTRIC CAR This model, built in 1993, is based on the famous 1907 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost, registration number AX 201, chassis number 60551. It is perhaps the most famous car in the world. The Barker "Windham" detachable side entrance tourer body was named "The Silver Ghost" and painted throughout in silver with silver fittings. After press demonstrations it competed in the 1907 Scottish Trial from Glasgow and then proceeded on a 15,000 mile trial under R.A.C. observation. It was also exhibited at Olympia that year. In 1908 it was sold to Daniel Hanbury of Eaton Square, London. Rolls-Royce reacquired their original "Silver Ghost" from the Hanbury family in 1948 and it is currently owned by its makers. This scale scratch built model is constructed of steel, aluminium and wood and powered by a 24 volt electric motor with forward and reverse gears. Its features include working electric lights in acetylene lamps, an imitation engine which conceals the two 12 volt batteries, side mounted spare wheel, bulb horns, hand brake and gear lever, tool boxes, opening doors, deep buttoned black leather seats and nickel plated brightwork. The body is finished in metallic silver and polished aluminium. Many hours of thought and meticulous preparation were spent to build this fantastic child's car. The rear half of the drivers seat can be folded flat to allow even a small adult to drive it. We recommend close inspection by Rolls-Royce collectors, fine model collectors, children with birthdays and anybody who would like to claim they have a Silver Ghost in their collection
