Roger Maris 61 Home Runs Tribute Display As a kid growing up in Fargo, North Dakota, it would have been difficult for Roger Maris to imagine playing baseball in the Major Leagues, much less what the year of 1961 would hold for himself and teammate Mickey Mantle. The two would battle for the home run crown through most of the 1961 season and eventually make a run at one the game's most heralded baseball records, Ruth's 60 home runs in a single season. Mostly due to injury, Mantle's run would stall at the end of the season while Maris would go on to set the new benchmark at 61. The race captivated a nation of fans, and continues to thrive today in baseball lore. Commemorating Maris' record breaking season, this framed display incorporates autographed 3 by 5 cards or cuts from every pitcher who served up one of the famed 61 homers. A plaque at the center of the display lists the names of every pitcher. Other ideal elements include a Roger Maris signed 8" by 10" photo, and 8" by 10" photos signed by Jack Fisher and Tracy Stallard who gave up home run numbers 60 and 61 respectively. Unsigned photos include an image of Maris gazing at Babe Ruth's plaque in Yankee Stadium's Monument Park, and one of Maris with fan Sal Durante who caught the ball hit by Maris for number 61.
