The sinking of RMS Titanic in the early hours of 15 April 1912 was one of the first global news stories and dominated newspaper coverage for several weeks after. Interest in the survivors of the tragedy—fewer than a third of the 2,224 persons onboard—was especially keen, as evidenced by this banner, which would have been carried by a newsboy or stood at a newsstand in the port city of New Bedford.
