The Universal Body of Physick in five Books; comprehending the Several Treatises of Nature, of Diseases and their Causes, of Symptomes, of the preservation of Health, and of Cures.
London: Printed for Philip Briggs,1657. Translated by William Carr 4to (280 x 180 mm). Title, woodcut decoration and initials to prefaces, 2 folding tables, index and errata. Contemporary tooled calf. Condition: title trimmed and with small tear at left margin, tear to D4, repair to 2nd table; rebacked and recased incorporating a portion of the original spine, extremities lightly worn. Provenance: Thomas Ward (“Chymist Oxford/ 1831,” signature to final leaf); signed again by above on title page and dated 1834; extensive medical notes to final pastedown dated 1716. An interesting early work on diseases and cures. This copy formerly owned by a 19th centery Oxford Chemist and contains early notes dated from 1716. ABPC records only three copies of this edition having been sold and none since 1982.
