Lot of 4, including: Richard Nixon "joint smoker:" a 9 in. tall painted plaster bust marked ©72 and Head Unit (or Head Unlt.), with a hole in the mouth which connects to hookah hose at the back of the neck, thereby allowing one to insert a joint in Nixon's mouth, inhale through the hose, and giggle as the 37th President puffs away. Richard Nixon Tricky Dicky juggling clown doll: a 12 in. wood doll with painted molded composition head, wearing a clown suit of patriotic fabric and holding an imitation audio disk titled "Tricky Dicky" and with 1976 copyright to artist Pat Butchen. The tape is attached to Nixon's back via a stiff wire, and when the string between his legs is pulled he tosses it over his head and into the other hand. Accompanied by a photocopied magazine or newsletter piece on the quirky political pieces of Pat Butchen, who is described as a "Philadelphia folk artist" who sold the pieces through Wannamaker's Department Store in the 1970s and 1980s. Richard Nixon gold-painted cast iron bank, stamped ©1972 Charlotte Blevins; 5.5 in. tall. Richard Nixon painted composite doll, making his famous "victory" hand sign with one hand while crossing the fingers of the other; 10 in. high. Provenance: Jim and Pat Gifford Collection of Political Americana Condition: "Joint smoker" with a few chips that have been touched up with new paint.
