Autograph letter signed ("Ph:Scuyler") to an unidentified correspondent, Albany, 6 March 1776. 1 page, 4to, verso with unrelated notes, tipped at corner to larger sheet. Fine. Reminder to forward "without the least Delay" the naval stores and clothing he has requested, now that the ice on the Hudson River is beginning to break up. -- WARD, Artemus (1727-1800), Major General . Letter signed ("Artemus Ward") to unidentified recipients ("Gentlemen"), Head Quarters, Boston, 15 April 1776. 1 page, 4to, center fold strengthened, otherwise fine. Ward, who resigned twice during this turbulent period of the Boston seige, writes that the cannons belonging to New Hampshire will be delivered as soon as they are sent for; "I wish it was in my power to supply you with all the cannon you want, but the Enemy destroyed and carried off so many...that we have not enough for our fortifications..." -- CLINTON, James (1733-1812), Brigadier General . Autograph letter signed ("James Clinton") to his brother George Clinton, Ramapough, 11 June 1777. 1 full page, 4to, partial red seal, autograph address panel, nicely framed . Warning of a counterfeiter, Jacob Bussell and adding "I recd. a letter from Genl. Autograph letter signed ("Marinus Willett") to N.Y. Governor George Clinton, Albany, 26 July 1781(?). 1¼ pages, 4to, integral address leaf, minor spotting. Excellent letter of "one of the truly outstanding American leaders of the Revolution" (Boatner), preparing to march against Tories and Indians on the New York borders. He reports that General Washington had told him he should have received reinforcements from Massachussetts, but they had been delayed through "a deficiency somewhere in not forwarding the necessary Orders to hasten on those Troops..." -- GATES, Horatio (c.1728-1806), Brigadier General . Letter signed ("Horatio Gates" with flourish) to Brig. Gen. Danielson, Albany, 17 May 1777. 2 pages, folio, encapsulated in clear archival tissue, old tape stains. As he attempts to marshall all possible forces to repel Burgoyne's expedition from Canada, Gates relays orders from the Mass. Assembly to reinforce Danielson in Hampshire with 1500 militiamen, adding that "iron potts, or camp kettles," are in great demand by the troops bound for Ticonderoga, and urging all available men be sent North. -- CLINTON, George (1739-1812), Brigadier General, later Vice-President . Letter signed ("Geo: Clinton" with flourish) apparently a circular letter to members of the N.Y. Legislature, New York, 3 March 1787. 1 page, 4to, foxed . Informing delegates that they must consider the question of "forming a new County on the west side of Lake Champlain...", which he feels merits consideration, noting the fact that the regions already possess a significant population, though many are "very remote from the seat of Justice..." -- PUTNAM, Israel (1718-1790), Major General . A brown soft leather pocket wallet, blindtooled with eagle and floral motifs. 85 x 190 mm., strap closure, handsewn cloth lining, minor wear, otherwise fine. Accompanied by a brief note regarding provenance: "This Pocket Book was the property of Israel Putnam, Has been in my family for over 80 years, My father having received it from my grandmother as Gen.
