Autograph draft document signed in third person, Boston, 7 April 1757, 1 page, folio, tear at fold, minor stains, Captain Bradstreet authorizes the appraisal of naval vessels: "...[Y]ou have reported to me that the here after mention'd Vessels taken into his Majesty's Service were fitted & provided in every respect agreeable to the Contract made with the owners of said Vessels..." -- THOMAS GAGE British Commander-in-Chief in North America . Document signed as Commander-in-Chief, New York, 5 August 1770, 1 page, oblong folio, ON PARCHMENT, lightly soiled , a military appointment: "By Virtue of the Power and Authority in Me Vested, I do hereby constitute and appoint [Thomas Wallace]...to be Barracks Master..." -- HORATIO GATES, General . Autograph letter signed to an unidentified recipient, Rose Hills, 31 May 1793. 1 page, 4to, very lightly browned, descriptive sheet attached to verso of letter , discussing financial matters and commenting on the ongoing French Revolution: "...I this moment hear, that Dumourier was Deserted by the Troops he Expected to accompany him to Paris, & escaped with a Body of Cavalry to the German Army! Heaven knows the Result that the Affairs of France will yet have..." -- HENRY KNOX, Major General, Continental Army, Washington's Secretary of War . Autograph letter signed to Revd. D. McClure, "Missionary among the Indians at Kyalemapigh on the river Muskingham, Delaware, West if Fort Pitt"; from Boston, 25 September 1772, 3 pages, 4to, addressed on page 4, with part of red wax seal present, the two leaves separated from one another , a warm letter from the young Knox to a close childhood friend, remarking the difference between their situations and complaining of the demands of business -- JOHN TAYLOR Colonel . Autograph letter signed to Brigadier General William Woodford, Albany, 29 March 1778. 2 1/4 pages, folio, integral address leaf in Taylor's hand, a few stains, two seal holes, a few tiny losses at folds (not affecting text), an eloquent letter: "The Marquis [de Lafayette] returns to camp, and all hope of renewing the Canadian expedition vanishes with him. I entered on it in its infancy with warmpth [ sic ], altho' I thought it a crusade business, dictated in the Spirit of a knight-errantry, and enthusiasm; -- the glitter of the object had drawn our attention from the means of acquiring it, and like a Star gazer, I expected we should go blindly on, led by hope, 'til we fell into the pit..." -- GEORGE CLINTON, General, Continental Army .
