Written eight days before the first Battle of Saratoga, and in the midst of Schuyler's imbroglio with the Continental Congress over the question of whether he or Horatio Gates held the command of the Northern Department. -- SCHUYLER, Philip John Autograph note signed, to unknown recipient, Fort Edward, 16 July 1777. 1p, 5¾ x 7½ in . "Sir, You will order the Militia of the State of New Hampshire to join you, and if none are yet in Motion you will find Express to bring them on with all possible dispatch." -- JONES, Willie (1741-1801). Autograph letter signed, to General Nathaniel Greene, n.d. 1p, folio, 1 inch hole on last line, removing one letter of text . Asking General Green's assistance in a business dispute with a Mr. Goldwaithe of Newport, Rhode Island, concerning a shipment of pork, corn, and tobacco.
