Through his wife, Jeanne Poiret sister of the famous couturier Paul Poiret René Boivin gained access to the elite world of high fashion. After his death in 1917, his wife Jeanne took over direction of the house of Boivin and sought out mainly female designers, most famously, Suzanne Belperron, who conceived many of the company's iconic creations. The majority of Boivin's jewellery were commissioned as one-of-a-kind pieces and remained largely unsigned, considering them distinctive enough to be recognisable.
