(From the Curious to the Extraordinary, 6th May 2021) RELICS OF EXTINCT BIRDS: A FEATHER OF AN HUIA, HETERALOCHA ACUTIROSTRIS RELICS OF EXTINCT BIRDS: A FEATHER OF AN HUIA, HETERALOCHA ACUTIROSTRIS North Island, New Zealand, last confirmed sighting 28/11/1907, in display box, of Natural History interest, the feather 54mm long Extinct since 1907. Endemic to the North Island of New Zealand. Exterminated by Europeans, who used their feathers to decorate hats. Provenance: Provenance from the collection of celebrated taxidermist Barry Williams. Viktor Wynd’s Museum, London. The Viktor Wynd Museum of Curiosities, Fine Art & UnNatural History is a contemporary reinterpretation of a Pre-Enlightenment Wunderkabinett or Cabinet of Curiosities. It is the creation of artist and writer Viktor Wynd, who has just opened a Falmouth branch of his museum inside the National Maritime Museum. His most recent book 'The UnNatural History Museum' was published by Prestel in 2020.
