REINA, Francesco (1772-1826). Lives of Italian historians and men of letters . Milan: Società Tipografica de'classici Italiani, 1807-1820. 8 o (227 x 150 mm), 4 works bound in one volume. PRIVATELY PRINTED FOR THE AUTHOR ON BLUE PAPER. Contemporary Italian quarter red morocco gilt, uncut, partly unopened. Provenance : count Gaetano Melzi (1783-1851), the first two works are INSCRIBED PRESENTATION COPIES to him from the author. Reina was the editor of Parini and an important book collector. His library was sold in Paris 1834-1840, many of his manuscripts were acquired by Guglielmo Libri. The short biographies bound together in this volume are: Vita di Lodovico Antonio Muratori (1672-1750); Vita di Carlo Denina (1731-1813); Vita di Pietro Metastasio (1698-1782), with engraved portrait; and Notizie intorno alla vita ed alle opere di Giovanbatista Gelli (1498-1563). FINE CONDITION.
