REGULATEUR DE PARQUET DE QUINZE JOURS DE RESERVE DE MARCHE AVEC DEUX CADRANS, TROIS MOUVEMENTS, GRANDE SONNERIE ET QUANTIEME, PAR ANTIDE JANVIER, 1812 ET AVANT white enamel hour dial (diameter 12 cm), signed JANVIER above the six hour numeral, centre seconds, blued steel 'Breguet' hands, milled gilt bezel within a blue surround with gold friezes and half pearl-set rosettes; fifteen day weight-driven movement with maintaining power, externally mounted Graham-style dead-beat escapement, independently suspended grid-iron pendulum the front face of the bob with an applied polychrome enamel plaque showing the attributes of astronomy, geometry, music and medicine displayed against a cloud banking in a royal blue ground; incorporated double face white enamel temperature indication plaque inscribed on what is now the front face (divided 25-20-15-10-0-5) Chaud, tempéré, froid (hot, temperate, cold) and Elementa suis propriis Armis victa (the elements are overcome with their own arms), and on the reverse (divided 15-10-5-0-5-10-15), Chaud, tempéré, froid (hot, temperate, cold) and A Janvier h[orlo]ger Mécanicien de Monsieur (A. Janvier, clock-maker and mechanician to Monsieur [ie the King's brother]). An axially linked pair of blued steel pointers for the temperature scales allows an instantaneous conversion to be made between the two calorific systems employed. This going-movement is linked to the two-train weight driven grande sonnerie mechanism below, the quarters being struck on two bells, the hours on a third; white enamel calendar dial (diameter 9,5 cm) signed 'Janvier', circumferential month and date scale surrounding, in the upper centre, a lunar scale of 29 1/2 days surrounding the top edge of a lunar volvelle with full cartographic Moon on a blue ground, and in the lower centre a day of the week scale. Above the dial is the inscription Truditur dies die, Novae que pergunt interire Lunae [Horace, Odes II, 18] (Day follows day, the Moon ascends and then descends), and the dial is flanked by silvered panels carrying, to the left, the inscription Offerte à A. F. J. Lhuilllier par son Ami le 1er janvier M.DCCCXII (presented to A. F. J. Lhuillier by his friend the 1st January 1812), and to the right Composée & Exécutée Par A. Janvier au Palais des Beaux Arts (Devised and realised by A. Janvier in the Palace of Fine Arts); the mahogany case with glazed rectangular upper section and stepped moulded flat topped pediment placed on a moulded trunk embellished with gilt stars and a lyre to the door.
