Title: “Records in the case of President McKinley” in Red Cross Notes Author: Place: New Brunswick, N.J Publisher: Press of Johnson & Johnson Date: 1901 Description: “Records in the case of President McKinley” on Pp. 191-195, in Red Cross Notes, Series III, No. 9 (Press of Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick, N.J., 1901) Original wrappers. Illustrated with six medical sketches. At 4:30 PM on September 6, 1901, the President was shot twice by Anarchist Leon Czolgosz while visiting the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo. Within a half-hour, he was rushed to a hospital and, in another half hour, went into surgery, which, at 7 PM, was announced as successful. But eight days later, on the morning of Sept. 14, McKinley died from gangrene. This essay, giving a detailed account of the surgery, his post-op treatment in the hospital, and the autopsy performed after his death, is unique among the many contemporary accounts of the assassination in its focus on medical details. The periodical in which the essay appeared, published after 1897 by the 14 year-old medical and pharmaceutical company, is scarce, copies mostly held by the libraries of medical schools and institutes. Lot Amendments Condition: Slight spine wear otherwise very good Item number: 251204
